Green Building: Rotating Solar Home Follows The Sun
I wrote about building round homes earlier this week on Groovy Green, but how about a home that actually moves in circles? There's a purpose to this dizzying concept: to track the sun. An inventor in the UK has been working on the plans for more than two years and is finally ready to start construction on his eco-friendly solar-tracking home. It's an interesting take on maximizing one's energy intake and Robin Hamilton thinks the payoff will outweigh the moments of confusion. From the article,
"'I'm really looking forward to starting work on this dream home,' Mr. Hamilton said. 'I've been developing the concept for many years and am delighted that planning permission has been granted.
'This property will certainly boast some rather distinctive features, not least the fact that I hope it will become the most energy efficient, cost-effective 'green' design in the UK. Its features can then be applied to other domestic and commercial buildings."
The home (with roughly a cost of £500,000) will turn on tires and railroad tracks. Hamilton also plans to add wind power and use recycled materials during construction. Generally, one has solar panels mounted to tracking equipment, not a home that revolves. It will be really interesting to see how much more energy-efficient a house of this nature is compared to traditional green buildings. Hit the jump for more!
